You will for sure need a lift. Most likely a 3". If you look above there is a link for one.

And if you wanted more buy some blocks for the back, and re-index the torsions to go higher. Just an idea. we do the same idea to go lower, so why not higher.
So what would the process be to do an rear axle flip? the torsion bars are simple, just a crank, and i read its a good idea to get an alignment afterwards, but the axle flip sounds a little more complicated

If you are talking doing a larger lift in the front it's better to reindex instead of just cranking the T bars. For the axle flip itself, it's pretty straightforward. Remove the axle mounts and driveshaft, then put the axle under the leaves. Or you could just get a longer leaf spring shackle like I did.

Note that I did this because my homemade bed was too heavy and causing wheel rub issues, but the shackles gave me about a 4 inch lift and was about $10

Yeah I got the shackles for $10 at Autozone when I worked for them. I don't know what the current price is. That was the pre discount price. It was a universal one as well. A note though, the stock shackles are wider at the frame mount point than they are at the leaf mount point. But despair not, because the solution is as simple as cutting off a part of the old shackle and using it as a spacer. It's the perfect size. And for a side shot, the fender is covering it up pretty good preventing me from getting a good shot of the shackle

EDIT: Also notice that there is an additional leaf spring on mine as well, that was my first attempt to removing any wheel rubbing issues but that did not work. That also made my ride bumpy as hell and after a while I just used that leaf when I had heavy stuff in the bed. The rest of the time I had those U bolts a lot closer to the axle. It's an easy adjustment with air tools That helper leaf set ended up costing me $40 and another 6 for the U Bolts. I completed the upgrade in 2006.

EDIT 2.0:
Here's an old pic of mine from the side. Notice that my bed is made of entirely PT lumber and is very heavy. I have plans to scrap and redo it for a lighter one that'll retain some of the lift. Also in future plans are the 4X4 Torsion bars and a proper reindexing, with new leaf springs as well. Driver side is a bit saggy.

Back in my teen years we used shackles like that to jack up the rear of our muscle cars.

The problem was that the body would tend to sway back & forth when we went around corners. (but we had 10" & 12" long shackles)

Here's some more pics from my archive. Here's with no leaf helpers or shackles at all. Also on incomplete bed.

And here's with the helper spring but no shackle. Just a comparison on height.

I imagine that my ride stance would be pretty sweet with a 4X4 bed or a cleaner flatty.

Yeah Brian, I believe that those shackles are 6 inches long if I recall correctly? Might be 8 the longest. And I never drive the truck fast enough around corners to find out, that's what my civic is for This is gonna be a hauler and a sipper when the diesel is done.

I Going to perform the 3" body lift on my 88 Mazda B2200 and would like to replace the shocks at the same time. Does anyone have any recommendations on which shocks/struts to use? Should I be looking into air shocks? I'm trying to put 31's on this truck with 15" tires. Please guide me in the right way. Thanks for all the help.

Thumbs up

The vehicle is used to take me to & from work. I'm going to perform the 3" body lift and put 31's on 15" rims to give a somewhat of an aggressive stance. I do plan on taking this truck dirt bike riding and would like it be able to go through some rough terrain without any problems. I just would like some options/opinons on the route I should take to achieve my goal. Thanks for the help.

There aint anything on Van Isle that is any worse than some of the $hit roads I took my blue truck on here on the mainland. Hell I drove blue from Squamish to Port Melon/Seaside Park on the Sunshine coast via a logging road. Because of the wash out at the end, the narrowness of my B2200 was the only truck to make it, I drove straight up the inside of the washed out road.

I was running stock height with 235/75R15's in the rear & 205/75R15 in the front on a 90 B2200 single cab.
