yeah, I hope so too. The parts that sold me on his ablilities were:
#1, he's been doing this for 30 years.
#2, one of my co-workers is a detroit native and used his services on his pontiac big block exclusively. This guy's attention to accuracy probably compares to K6's level of detail when he was at everham.
#3, he specializes in diesel applications. I'm half tempted to have him rebuild and tweak my injector pump as well, maybe adjust one of the levers to work with a future turbocharger.
#4, when I asked if he could modify my crank pulley (FE to fit RF timing gear) he took a good look at it and explained exactly how he was going to do such.
#5, when I showed him the crank, he immediately recognized it as being a forged crank, didn't even need to lift or touch it beforehand.
When I left, I felt extremely confident. I left saying "treat this as if it were for your own personal project." I know that sentence right there probably bumped up the cost of the work by at least $300, but I want this done correctly and once.
Like I said, he's retired and does only small projects at a time. He works out of a side garage at his house and has all the equipment that he had at his full size machine shop. I'm half tempted to let him do the rebuilding of the bottom end leaving me just the head to complete.

Ya he sounds better than the jerk from Ne. that hasn't done your simple tstat adapter yet Sorry but have been busy at getting the honey do list shortened up,and general summer fun, hope to get after it this week ,OK?
Have the program in the mill, the block squared up,and a slow week ahead,so with the chip gods blessing I'll be able to send by Friday.

lol, I was wondering what was going on with that, I figured that it was a difficult program or something going wrong with the mill. No worries, it's going to be a while at the machine shop, and still a while longer to get the parts shipped from aussieland. Take your time and I look forward to seeing the finished product

Nah the rebuild kt is comming from down under, once I get the required measurements. The ip came from a guy selling parts from his escort. Still am tempted to let him rebuild and modify the IP though, lol. I don't want a slug after all.

well if its gonna be new and fresh inside, then it should be perfectly ready for some more power then all you really need to do to get more fuel for the turbo is find the fuel screw on the pump and figure out which way to turn it for more rack movement then it'll just dump more fuel and once the turbo spools you'll be using it all

Well I received a crushing blow this afternoon. 2 of them actually. The first one is that the head indeed was leaking behind the valve seats. Since the valves were not removed for the first pressure test the leak was not seen. He tried to fix them at his current shop but it was a no go. He has the head en route to a buddy in Alabama and said something about an oven and new valve seats. this is gonna hurt but the cost of a new head is gonna hurt even more.
the second setback is the crank pulley itself, he was not able to modify the one I was hoping to use. The holes were that much different. So it's off to a fabricator's shop to get a new one made with the right hole pattern..........
just a wonderful ****ing Thursday.....

apparantely the hole pattern was different enough that he didn't feel comfortable drilling new holes. sure he could do it, but it's rotating and has belts on it powering other devices. it wouldn't take much to make a mean wobble and cause big problem.

Cool deal,a fella (& the lady) have to have a place to hang the whatever.
Made a little progress on the adapter, the inside is all done(mayhaps a little file work left),the outside is kinda bugger, but it'll get done.Nother couple hours or so.
