i know i see you over on bscene all the time but dont recall ever seeing the build up of pics of the truck. it looks great and the swap is well done. i really like how you narrowed the rear frame using all stock stuff and moving it in. looks well done and thought out. sucks bout the wreck but alteast now you got some spending cash and still a clean title.

I dont know about where you live but in Arkansas that $2900 wont get you far at a body shop.

I have been in the paint and Body business since 1992. Just last year I bought the stuff to paint my wifes motorcyle.

We bought primer, 3 colors of paint, clear, pinstripe, sandpaper, etc etc and just that cost me about $400. If I would have had to pay someone for what I did to it, I would have spent probably $2400 to $2700

Yeah, at the time I built this, my daily was on its way out, so I rushed this build together.
Because I didn't know how fast the clock was ticking down, I never stopped to take pics of the actual build.
I wanted to keep a stock appearance, so there's a little bit of engineering that will never be seen until I tear it down...
Who knows when that'll be?!

Thanks for the compliment, but I feel that I rushed through it.

Nice paint Brian!

I said decent body and paint, not show quality like that bike is .. NICE... I'm talking one color simple 2 stage.

I live in California and unfortunately GREAT body and paint guys are out of work and are doing side jobs for little to nothing. (my uncle , been doing paint and body for 40 years) being one of them. I just got my wifes Corolla sprayed 2 stage Fire red metallic, my uncle and I did the body and prep, but he moved before he could paint it . So I hired an out of work highly recommended guy who lost his shop, but rents a booth from another shop to seal it & spray for $600 and it came out **** fabulous.Heavy metallic with no tiger striping or paint flaws/orange peel at all. For body we used Xtreme product for the first time (great stuff) and Rage filler for spot work.. we spent about $400. I'm gonna do the same with the truck once I get it situated same painter too.. all in all about $1200 and some elbow grease. Its actually better work than my friends Infiniti G35 that was painted at Diablo Autobody for $3800.

Back on topic.. I hope all pans out well and you get that thing back on the road. Sorry for the mild hijack..

Thanks for the compliment on the bike, but I think its far from show quality, its nice, but not show quality.

As for your car, for a $1000 thats not bad. You got a good deal. That would cost $8000 to $10,000 here.

back to the topic, sorry!

Okay, so I got my check and I've just been sitting on it.
Already fixed the front end and put my protege mirrors on.

On Valentines Day, I drove to Barstow(about half way to Los Angeles) to see my wife, who took the kids to go camping with their grandparents.
All went well on the drive down, but not so lucky coming home.
About half way home, I lost my transmission... all but first and reverse.
Got it towed home and decided to buy another transmission.
Here's what I got: Bowtie Overdrives Level 2 Performance

I'll take plenty of pics when I do the swap.

I didn't want to buy another one, but shops around town wanted between $900 and $1200 for a stock rebuild.
Plus extra labor if they had to pull it out!

Also, I bought new tires too.
I got four 60,000 mile tires delivered to my front door for $320(looks like they went up a couple bucks)
I love that site... No Sales Tax and Free Shipping!

Well, I've had the Transmission in for about a week now.

This thing is NICE!!! Firm part throttle shifts and Hard WOT shifts.
If I romp on it from a stop, it won't get traction until fourth gear.
I've never had any vehicle that would do that on dry pavement without doing a brake stand.

I really need to learn how to finesse the "Go-Fast" pedal.

No, but I have to pull the console to do a few more things.
When I get around to it, I'll post some pics for you.

It's a Factory 1992 Firebird shifter and cable. In fact the whole setup came from the same car.
If you look at the last picture, you can see the plate on the transmission tunnel, where the cable comes through.
During the build I busted it, so it's easy to see the yellow-ish epoxy repair.
