Default New b26 owner

Well tomorrow I will be buying a 89 b2600 4x4....2600i if I have read correctly on the site.

So the truck has 205000 miles on it and seems to run and idle well. The only oddity is that the truck is painted camouflage....
It will make me stand out or I will be invisible

Either way what advice do you have for a new B26 owner?
BTW I am in Waco Tx

Well I picked the truck up today and checked it out and everything seemed fine. The guy said that his mechanic had replaced the front main seal and I checked for recent leaks and it seemed fine.

The good: Body, transmission and transfer case, frame, electrical, and no rust.

The bad: Engine (leaks oil out of the front and lots of blow by, might be the reason for the oil leak....) cv boots are torn and when you put it in 4x4 you can hear them clunking, Interior is worn.

Found out the engine was leaking after I had driven it 40 or so mile back to my place....

So I am looking for advice. What should I do.

i would clean the front of the engine down really well with a pressure washer and some degreaser. this way you will be able to see where the fresh oil is leaking from, and we can go from there.

as for the cv axles, they are pretty simple to replace, probably not more than 80-100 bucks a side too.

worn interior? time for some custom fit seats

Thank you for the reply. Well seems that it is most probably the front main seal. Seems that the person that changed it out (if he really did) did a poor job of it. I think I can get the axles for 49 a piece. Need a fan clutch and I need to put on a tach. It has developed a small shudder on take off.

I need to look in to the emissions on the truck and do some maintenance to get it running better.

I want to raise the truck up a few inches and add a skip plate to the front so that it doesn't dig into the mud like it did today. Better tires are in the works.

So any advice on the lift and a skid plate to cover the front and bottom.

You might want to look for a factory tach dash, it will plug right in and you'll have a clock with it also. If you do this, don't forget to re-position the speedometer cable (Because the ODO is to the left side instead of in the middle) so you won't break it when installing!

Wow I like the look of that one. Was that an option on the 2600i 4x4?

Also did any other B series have the tach that would fit and work with my truck?
Right now at a yard close to me is an 89 2200 I didn't really look into it so I don't know what it has in it.

make sure your pcv is not plugged up, and that the crankcase is not getting pressurized either.

check over for vacum leaks too, one will cause it run funny.

as far as the shudder on take off, check your u joints in your driveshaft, if those are fine your clutch is probably glazed/wearing out.

any of the B trucks with the same body style will work for the tach

Okay, so where is the pcv located... I might of seen it already for all I know but I didn't know it for what it was if I did see it.

Checking for a vacuum leak makes my head spin.
If I get a chance tomorrow I will take the truck to where my friend works and get him to put it on a lift so that we can get a good look to see what might need to be replaced.

Well I went ahead and replaced the pcv valve and the hose and I am not sure but it might be doing a little better.

Cranked on the torsion bars and have the truck leveled out now and had the truck aligned. It helped the feel of the truck and now I just need to get some better tires on the truck the cv axles replaced and that front seal and I think I will be fairly well off. I will also replace the ball joints and some other stuff that is worn out.... when i have the money.

Well I have an update, I replaced the seal behind the harmonic balancer and my oil leak stopped.... for about a week. So the new seal is starting to leak.

So I am looking to see if any one has any advice on why the new seal is starting to leak.

Also, it seems that at idle the engine runs rough like it has a miss how ever as soon as you give it the slightest amount of throttle it smooths out. So any ideas on why it is acting like that??

Your harmonic balancer could have a groove worn around it where the seal lip rides, therefore not letting it seal properly. It has probably worn the new seal down. They make a sleeve that goes over the shank of the HB and it restores the sealing surface. Try that, and put another new seal in and you'll be leak free more than likely.
