Default Plugging vacuum ports

I am tired of replacing ****ty vacuum caps on my intake manifold after installing the Holley carb, they are cracking again and it is idling like **** again. So whats the best method for plugging them, pull the tubes and tap for screws or fill the holes with filler putty?

I well get replacement caps for the next few weeks and hopefully over spring break I can pull the intake and fix the adapter plates and plug the holes and hopefully get my performance cam installed as well

Permanant fix is cut them off and braze them up. If you want to leave them open, I use small lengths of vacuum hose with a bolt in the end.

I have also found the AutoZone/Checker-O-Reilly vacuum caps to crack, and after a relatively short time, can't blame the Arizona heat alone for that. I went back to using short pieces of vacuum line and golf tees. Some have suggested better quality vacuum caps can be obtained at Vacuum Caps and Plugs - SummitRacing.com but I haven't tried any of those. I also haven't tried anything from NAPA or CarQuest for these, maybe something in a drawer rather than a shelf bubble pack.

Since the rubber vacuum hose holds up well, I think rubber vacuum caps might be better than plastic.

no, but that intake sure gets hot! It gets in the neighborhood of 195-200 degrees. (depending on your thermostat temp)

I have/had the same problem, I started replacing the caps as the go with new vac tube and plugging them with screws. That seems to work the best.

I tried some caps from RadioShack once and they did last longer than the ones from Autozone. I got them on sale a few years back (not sure if it was one of those sales of "we are not going to carry it anymore" thought).

When I do mine I'm gone get solid dowel pins. drill out the holes and heat them up on the intake. take the dowel pins and stick them in the freezer. when I get the holes heated up a bit and stick the cold dowel pins in the hot intake will shrink and the cold dowel pins will swell. closing up the hole for good I hope anyway lol.

easy, 2 dollar fix. Self taping bolts, take em back out, cut em short and put em back in. A little lock tite and paint and it'll look factory

Make sure you vacuum the filings out of the vacuum port from the self tapping screws. That will go into the cylinders when it's started!

Well I think I am going to go and take some taps and tap out the holes and thread in some bolts, probably 5 or 6mm.
